How to choose the air conditioner

Fixed or portable air conditioner?

The first question to clarify, and one of the most important, concerns the choice between a fixed or portable air conditioner. Both categories have their own characteristics, which may or may not be suitable for a certain use, and the decision therefore depends on the user’s personal needs.

Fixed air conditioners ensure better distribution of cold air, thus significantly superior performance compared to portable models. These appliances are capable of cooling an entire room more efficiently and quickly due to their superior power. They are more expensive, but this problem can be solved by taking advantage of air conditioning deals offered by popular e-commerce sites. This way, you can combine comfort at home with a healthy budget.

On the other hand, installing a fixed air conditioner is a more complex process and therefore always requires the intervention of a specialized technician. Portable air conditioners do not require installation, and since they are mobile, they can be moved from room to room. As mentioned, they are less powerful and therefore more suitable for small spaces. Finally, they produce a low noise level.

Room size and power

Another factor to consider is the following: it’s important to determine the required power based on both the air conditioner’s technical specifications and the size of the room to be cooled. This isn’t a decision to be taken lightly, as too much or too little power can lead to energy waste and insufficient, or even completely ineffective, cooling.

The general rule of thumb is this: to cool one square meter, you need around 340 BTUs ( British Thermal Units ) per hour. For small spaces, 9,000 BTU/h air conditioners may suffice, while for larger rooms, it’s recommended not to go below 18,000 BTU/h. Another helpful tip? For cooling bedrooms, a mid-range setting of 12,000 BTU/h is usually recommended.

Inverter technology

Another aspect to consider is the technology used by the air conditioner. In particular, inverter systems are among the most effective. Inverter air conditioners, like those from Samsung, constantly adjust the compressor speed to maintain a stable temperature. This way, when the temperature rises or drops, the device adjusts accordingly, optimizing energy consumption.

Inverter technology, among other things, avoids the temperature fluctuations that normally occur with traditional air conditioners, as they constantly turn on and off to maintain the desired temperature. As you might expect, air conditioners that use this technology are more expensive, but they offer significant advantages.
